Selection of cleaning agents
Avoid strong acids and alkalis: Cleaning agents with strong acids and alkalis can have a chemical reaction with food-grade silicone, destroying its molecular structure. For instance, common sodium hydroxide solution (caustic soda solution) is strongly alkaline, while hydrochloric acid is strongly acidic. Using such cleaning agents can make the surface of silicone bracelets rough, lose elasticity, and even dissolve and deform, seriously affecting the appearance and service life of the bracelets.
Prefer a mild neutral cleaner: A mild neutral cleaner is more friendly to silicone bracelets and will not cause corrosion or damage to them. For instance, diluted neutral detergent can not only effectively remove stains from the surface of bracelets but also ensure the stability of the physical and chemical properties of silicone.
Avoid cleaning agents containing organic solvents: Cleaning agents with organic solvents such as alcohol, gasoline, and acetone may dissolve certain components in the silicone, causing the bracelet to become soft, brittle, or experience problems such as fading and deformation. Although alcohol is often used for disinfection, if it is directly used to clean silicone bracelets, it may cause the surface gloss to decrease.
Use of cleaning tools
Avoid using sharp or rough tools: Sharp tools such as steel wool balls and hard-bristled brushes can leave obvious scratches on the surface of silicone bracelets, damaging their smooth appearance. Rough tools may also scratch the silicone, making stains more likely to adhere to the scratched area and difficult to clean thoroughly. For instance, cleaning a bracelet with a steel wool ball will leave fine marks on its surface, affecting its appearance.
Choose soft tools: Soft cleaning tools, such as soft cloths, sponges or soft-bristled toothbrushes, can gently remove stains without causing damage to the silicone. Gently wipe the surface of the bracelet with a soft cloth, which can effectively remove dust and minor stains. For dirt in crevices or dead corners, a soft-bristled toothbrush can be used to gently scrub.
Key points of the cleaning process
Control the cleaning force: When cleaning silicone bracelets, the force should be moderate. If too much force is applied, it may deform the silicone or damage its internal structure. Just like wiping glasses, gentle movements can not only clean thoroughly but also protect the items from damage. It can be imagined that silicone bracelets are as delicate as a baby’s skin and need to be treated gently.
Pay attention to the cleaning time: The cleaning time should not be too long, especially when the bracelet is soaked in the cleaning solution. Long-term soaking may cause the silicone to absorb excessive detergent components, resulting in changes in its performance. Generally speaking, it is sufficient to soak the bracelet in a cleaning solution for a few minutes, and then clean it with a soft tool.
Rinse thoroughly in time: After cleaning, immediately rinse the bracelet with clean water to ensure there is no detergent residue. Residual cleaning agents may cause irritation to the skin during subsequent use or react with substances in the air, affecting the quality of the bracelet. When rinsing, you can use running water to ensure that the detergent is thoroughly washed away.
Handling of special circumstances
Stubborn stains: If the bracelet is stained with ink, oil or other stubborn stains, do not pull or rub it too hard to avoid damaging the silicone. You can apply a small amount of mild toothpaste to the stain. The abrasives and cleaning ingredients in the toothpaste can help remove the stain. Then gently scrub with a soft-bristled toothbrush and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Mold spots appear: If the bracelet develops mold spots due to improper storage, you can first soak it in warm water with an appropriate amount of white vinegar for 15 to 20 minutes. White vinegar has the function of sterilization and deodorization. After soaking, gently scrub the moldy spots with a soft-bristled toothbrush, then rinse thoroughly with clean water and let it dry.
Follow-up processing
Natural drying: After cleaning, the bracelet should be placed in a well-ventilated and dry area to dry naturally, avoiding direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause silicone to age and become brittle, shortening the service life of the bracelet. You can place the bracelet on a cool and well-ventilated windowsill and let it air dry naturally.
Avoid high-temperature drying: Do not use high-temperature equipment such as hair dryers or dryers to dry bracelets. High temperatures can intensify the movement of the silicone molecular chains, causing the silicone to harden, become brittle, and even deform.
